CHAPLAIN'S CORNER: THE LIGHT

By Jerroll Martens, Chaplain

“The Lamb is the light thereof.” Rev 21:23

This scene is in heaven where there is no need of the sun or moon. Christ is the light thereof. Light presents many pictures to us.

Light reminds us of joy. A cheerful person is like a light spreading its beam. The joy of saints in heaven will be that Christ loved them, bought them, cleansed and fitted them for that wonderful place. Light also brings out beauty. The diamond and the sapphire have no beauty in the dark; they need light. Those in heaven will reflect the light of the Savior as they display His work in their lives.

Light also speaks of knowledge. We speak of the “age of enlightenment.” In the presence of Christ the things of earth, which were hard to understand, the things that puzzled us, will be known to us. Light also manifests. Things not seen in the dark are seen clearly in the light. The believer is not now what he will be, for when we see Him, we shall be like Him, clearly manifesting His righteousness given to us.

Believers also are spoken of as “children of light” who should walk in His ways. Light dispels darkness, so needed in a dark world of evil. Jesus spoke of Himself as the light of the world and His children as the reflectors of that light. Thank God for a prepared place of perfect light and for the light He now gives us on our pilgrimage.
