Begin Again

Heading into 2020, it was all planned out. A project to update and revitalize many areas of Newton Presbyterian Manor’s first floor of the main building was announced and ready to start.

Like many plans, COVID-19 interrupted the project. For the safety of everyone involved and the unknowns presented, the project was shelved. You may recall, we shared a story of former resident, Christena Bowen’s generosity and her desire to leave a legacy. At her passing in 2014, she left a gift to Newton Presbyterian Manor earmarked for remodeling and capital improvements.  

It was her gift that served as the catalyst for the proposed renovations. Now in 2021, thankfully, a new plan emerges. With some careful planning, the project will be able to move forward, adhering to COVID-19 protocols while providing limited disruption to the overall operation of the community.

“We must continue to make progress to enhance the lives of our residents and future residents. It just makes sense to get as much done as possible despite operating under COVID restrictions,” said Marc Kessinger. Beginning this month, temporary walls will go up and old walls will come down throughout the main lobby and dining areas.  

Phase one of the renovations will allow for a new dining experience, updated lobby with casual seating and a hospitality area. This new space can also be utilized as a commons room for meetings and presentations. (See photo above of our current dining room, before the pandemic.)

Phase two renovations will move down the hallways with new flooring, lighting, doors, wall decorations and furniture and extend into common areas and gathering rooms. From there, more updates are slated.  

“The community of donors and friends of Newton Presbyterian Manor play an integral part of this investment. So many people want to help seniors during this pandemic. Now is the time,” said Marc.  

An announcement of updated campus amenities and participation opportunities will unfold later this spring.
