APPLE BLOSSOM FESTIVAL RAISES MORE THAN $16,000

Apple Blossom Festival brings quality family fun, entertainment and a great meal to the Newton community as the first outdoor celebration of spring. The weather was perfect for an evening outdoors April 28.

“Apple Blossom Festival has always been a fun evening for all ages,” said Noelle Dickinson, marketing director. “We love that children can safely enjoy activities geared just for them while their parents and grandparents relax nearby, enjoying music and entertainment with a local flavor.”

More than $16,000 was raised for the Good Samaritan Program through sponsorships, meal tickets, baked goods and basket auction income and the KidFest tickets. The Good Samaritan Program enables seniors who have outlived their financial resources through no fault of their own to remain living in their home on the Presbyterian Manor campus.

KidFest, a Festival favorite, included special activities and fun for children of all ages. Featured this year were moonwalks, giant slide, fun cycles and banana bikes, as well as carnival games and prizes.

First Presbyterian Church – First Presbyterian Church’s connection to Presbyterian Manor goes all the way back to the beginning when Dr. George Nelson pastored the church and subsequently became our first executive director when the campus opened in 1949. Dozens of volunteers from the church help make Apple Blossom Festival happen each year by serving food, bringing baked goods and grilling hot dogs and hamburgers. This year, First Presbyterian hosted an information booth at the festival, sharing information about the church and its vision: “connecting with God and connecting with people.” Pastor Scott McGinnis, his wife, Sonday, and their three children joined the FPC congregation in ministry last September.

Heart and Soul Hospice –Heart & Soul Hospice is an extension of PMMA’s services to seniors in Kansas. They play an important role in the continuity of care from independent living all the way through to health services. Their mission to provide compassionate, end-of-life care, guided by Christian values mirrors the PMMA mission.

Based at our home office in Wichita, Heart and Soul Hospice also offers services to patients in Sedgwick, Harvey, Harper, Sumner, Cowley, Kingman, Reno and Butler County. Lippert Components – We at Lippert Components (LCI) acquired Hehr in February 2018 and it’s been a great transition thus far.
