NEW HAIR STYLIST CREATING CONFIDENCE ONE ‘DO AT A TIME

After owning her own salon in Newton, hair stylist Joely Bartel recently made a career change for the better.

“I decided it was time for a step back to be able to have less stress and enjoy life for awhile — just be a hairstylist and not an owner. I started at Salon Posh in Newton, doing hair mostly in the evenings, and Thursdays I travel to Halstead to do hair at nursing homes there. I still have kept both of those jobs as they don’t conflict with my work here at Newton Presbyterian Manor,” said Joely.

Joely joined our community in February and appreciates how she everyone has made her feel right at home.

“The residents have been so accommodating of me starting and learning the schedules and working on getting everyone in before their daily activities. The staff is fantastic and it's great to be able to walk in the door every morning knowing they will be there to help with residents if needed,” said Joely.

After seven years in the hair styling business, Joely finds she does so much more than styling her clients’ hair.

“The thing I enjoy most about being a hair stylist is knowing that you are the best part of some clients’ week. My clients look forward to getting their hair done and coming in to do something for themselves. To make them feel fantastic—while I can only change how they look on the outside—it's great knowing how much more confident you can make someone feel on the inside,” said Joely.

When she’s not in the beauty shop, there’s a good chance you’ll find Joely spending time in the great outdoors.

“I love to get outdoors, whether it’s camping, fishing, running, or just having a good time with friends. We also are big into sports, so there is always a game on somewhere,” said Joely.

Joely grew up in Buhler, Kan., in a family business, with a lot of family in Newton. Her grandparents owned Play-Mor Lanes, where she spent a lot of time helping in the evenings and on weekends.

“I loved Newton, so this seemed like the perfect fit for me living here now for five years,” said Joely.
