Spiritual Life

Life at Newton Presbyterian Manor affords residents countless opportunities to worship and practice their faith. We always encourage residents to find a home church and get involved to deepen their spiritual life. For those who wish to make the campus their home congregation, there are many opportunities to grow and to serve others.

Regularly scheduled services include:

  • Sunday chapel
    Sunday, 11 a.m. in the Nelson Memorial Chapel. Services are open to all residents and led by volunteers and groups of the community on a rotating basis. Services are planned and scheduled by the Spiritual Life committee.
  • Singspiration
    Sunday, 6:15 p.m. in the Nelson Memorial Chapel. Open to all residents, this weekly hymn sing is led by volunteers on a rotating basis. Planning is done by the Spiritual Life committee.
  • Daily devotions and prayer
    Monday-Friday, 7:45 a.m. in Main Dining area, conducted by chaplain Jerroll Martens or staff members. Open to residents of assisted living and independent living.
  • Bible study at Broadway apartments
    Monday, 9:30 a.m. at Broadway apartments, conducted by chaplain Jerroll Martens. The class is designed for apartment residents but open to the entire community.
  • Women’s Bible study
    Tuesday, 9:30 a.m. in the Nelson Memorial Chapel, led by Eleanore Myers. Attendees include residents as well citizens of the Newton community.
  • Men’s Bible study
    Tuesday, 9:30 a.m. in the library, led by the Rev. Ted Veer. Attendees include residents as well citizens of the Newton community.
  • Men’s discussion and devotions
    Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. in McFarland Center, conducted by Chaplain Jerroll Martens.
  • Devotional Bible study
    Wednesday, 10:30 a.m. in McFarland Center, conducted by Chaplain Jerroll Martens.
  • Hymn sing
    Wednesday, 10 a.m., led by our Activities department. The pianist is a local volunteer.
  • Rosary service
    Friday, 9:30 a.m. in the Nelson Memorial Chapel. Services are led by the Altar Society of St. Mary’s Church.
    Mass is celebrated monthly.
  • Friday chapels
    Friday, 10:30 a.m. in McFarland Center
    Friday, 11 a.m. in Nelson Memorial Chapel

Worship however they choose

These services are open to all residents. Services are led by Chaplain Jerroll Martens, with speakers also including pastors from the Newton community.

  • Monthly prayer meeting
    First Saturday of the month, 11 a.m. in Nelson Memorial Chapel. The meeting is open to the entire community and hosted by the Spiritual Life committee.

In addition to our regular schedule of services, Newton Presbyterian Manor holds special chapel services during the Christmas season.
