Lifelong Learning

Exploration and discovery are a vital part of living well and play a key role in healthy aging. In fact, studies show that people who stay stimulated intellectually throughout life are typically happier and healthier. Residents of Newton Presbyterian Manor routinely participate in a variety of activities that keep them actively engaged in the community and the world through our lifelong learning programs.

  • Weekly intergenerational programs in McFarland Center and Anderson Place help foster relationships between residents and visiting students from Apple-A-Day Preschool and Newton Public School’s Summer Latchkey program.
  • Bethel College’s Life Enrichment program on Wednesday mornings is available to residents of all levels of living.
  • Senior Players is a resident-led readers’ theater group that meets weekly to practice and plan for occasional performances on and off campus. The group is open to all levels of living.
  • Monthly “Healthy Learning” lectures feature Presbyterian Manor staff providing perspectives on wellness, nursing and various therapies.
  • Art is Ageless reception and exhibit in March gives residents greater appreciation for the talents of fellow residents and other local artists.
  • Periodic “Senior Wednesday” lectures at Wichita-area museums and other cultural venues feature a wide range of topics. The program is sponsored by the Kansas Health Foundation.
  • Annual trip to Senior Expo in Wichita provides an opportunity to collect information on senior interests.

Just Ask

Our Just Ask Lifelong Learning series offers topics of interest to the broader community as well as our residents. Just Ask topics have included wills, senior scams, balance and falls, winter/summer safety, healthy eating, recognizing the warning signs Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia and recognizing the signs of heart attack and stroke.

Besides hosting lectures and informational programs, we offer residents numerous opportunities to pursue their interests in our beautifully appointed library. In addition to our own wide selection of fiction and non-fiction books, The Newton Public Library makes a monthly visit, bringing hundreds of additional choices which can be checked out through the ENLITE program.
